Near Deventer Station, De Kop Handelskade is being developed—a collection of buildings with a diverse mix of living, working, and learning spaces. With 43 private apartments, 88 student units, and 76 social housing units, the project also helps meet the city’s housing needs. It is part of the development of Stadscampus De Kien.
For the area between the two residential blocks, we designed the rooftop garden. Located atop a parking deck and facing challenges from shade and wind, this is a demanding spot to create a welcoming space. However, it will soon feature a café terrace set among greenery, seating edges for people to relax, and a central pathway through the garden that will draw visitors across the space.
