Atop the dike along the Oude Maas, a new Integrated Child Center (IKC) is being built, which will house two schools, a daycare centre and a gymnasium. This new school will serve the Elementen and Schenkel neighbourhoods. We made a design for the spaces around the building.
Space on the site is limited. The lower grades and after-school care (BSO) are located in the basement and on the ground floor, with direct access to the playground. Other groups can also access the playground directly via rooftop terraces. To the south of the school, we designed an intensive, green play landscape. On the north side, the kiss-and-ride area serves a dual function, allowing for parking spaces to be used as play areas during school hours. Several green zones organize the space, with graphic markings indicating various play features. Diagonal paths connect with the design of the adjacent DIJK II, integrating the plan with its surroundings.
