The Museum Quarter is a significant inner-city area transformation and redevelopment located at the old harbor. It revitalizes the Vlaardingen city center, where decay and vacancy had long prevailed. Commissioned by BPD, BLAUW developed the urban plan, and we designed the public space for this unique project.

Behind the national heritage buildings along the Westhavenkade lies the historic heart of the herring fishing industry. Since the 17th century, this area has housed sheds, a ropewalk, and warehouses. With respect to its history, the outdoor space of the new neighbourhood has been divided into several sections, reflecting the locations of the former factory spaces. The materials used complement the colour scheme of the new architecture, and the careful design of the public-private interface ensures a pleasant living environment.
